SRC Project Insight: Whitechapel Station - Crossrail
SRC are delighted to be supporting London Underground Crossrail Team with a team of engineers in the handover and assurance of several stations across the new Elizabeth Line.
On Monday 23rd August 2021, Whitechapel station became the first station on the Elizabeth Line to open its door to the travelling public. The station presented a newly upgraded entrance on Whitechapel Road, a second station entrance on Durward Street and new lifts which opened for passenger use providing step-free access.
Whitechapel became the fourth station on the London Underground network to achieve SC3ROGS in just six months after Farringdon, Tottenham Court Road and Liverpool Street. This is regarded as a magnificent achievement and the result of a huge amount of effort and dedication by the LU Crossrail Team.
The opening of the station was greeted with media interest and was televised by ITV and the BBC, as well as published articles in the London Evening Standard and The Economist. Well done to all of the SRC Team that were involved - a brilliant accomplishment!
