Chairman's End of Year Address - 2020

The past 12 months have been very different to any other in memory. The pandemic has caused a lot of anxiety and disruption to our way of life. Some people close to us lost loved ones and our thoughts are with them and their families. However, the pandemic has made us more resilient and encouraged everyone to be more adaptive and flexible, embracing a new way of conducting business but has also enabled many of us to spend more time at home with family and in some instances digitally re-engage with friends and relatives. SRC Infrastructure has had an exciting year. The pandemic as expected, did cause some disruption but briefly using the furlough scheme enabled us to retain all our permanent staff. Unfortunately, we have lost a few of our associates but we are working hard to reengage with them and rebuild flexibility in capacity.

Operations - Through the summer we rebranded and restructured the company to “SRC Infrastructure”, launching it formally in October. This demonstrates our focus and ambition to expand into the wider Infrastructure arena with greater emphasis outside the Rail sector. This restructuring underlines our diversification strategy not only for market presence but also service offering, expanding into Project Management and PMO. This, less prominent but well-established capability will be of equal importance to our core Engineering offering. The Project Delivery Service (PDS) Business Unit led by Ashley Butterworth will be dove-tailing our Engineering & Design Services (EDS) Business Unit currently led by Pat Keegan.

Growth and Development - We have been exceptionally busy throughout the year with various business development activities which have started to bear fruit. We were successful in winning a Department for Transport (DfT) project which, in collaboration with Transport for London (TfL), focuses on innovating the way we cool our metro system. We have supported our private sector partners and worked on exciting projects such as Birmingham’s New Street Station and various HS1 schemes. In TfL, our PDS business unit secured 2 Lots on the Project and Program Management Framework - congratulations to Ashley and his team for this great result. We have also been successful on the Engineering Framework, which will enable us to further grow our technical capabilities - well done to Pat and his team. Finally, we have secured 2 Lots on the Transport Planning Framework which will be serviced equally by both Business Units.

Next Year – We aim to continue providing the best quality service to our existing clients and continue with our diversification strategy, expanding into new sectors and services. As part of our restructure and rebranding, we have moved offices to a high-end, social and fun space for our people to work in, at the heart of Canary Wharf. This underpinned one of our main focus’ of the coming year; recruitment. As we are growing, we need ambitious, motivated and curious people of all seniority levels and backgrounds to join our fast-paced business. Therefore, if you are interested or you know someone who would fit our ethos, please get in touch.

All the best,

Colin Furbank
